Question : Why do you have to turn off 2 way radios and cell phones ? at construction blast sites? This morning, I was taking my daughter to school and we came upon a construction blasting area near the side of the road; there was a sign that said to turn off 2 way radios and cell phones. What is the reason for this? And by the way, I didnt know what section to put this in and it’s the one yahoo suggested… 2 way radios

Question : Can I use newer 2-way radios with existing older ones? I have some older Motorola 2-way radios (10 channel, 38 privacy code). I’d like to get a pair of newer ones, but I’m wondering if the newer ones will work with the older ones? That is – be able to use all 4 radios to communicate with one another all on the same channel?
I assume that a channel is a channel (aka, Channel “2″ on FRS is the same on both radio pairs?)

Question : When do you need to have a radio license when using 2-way radios? I am looking at buying some two way radios, but I have heard that certain distance-capable radios require a license to use. What is the distance before you need to apply for one? 2 way radios

Answer by hillbillyThose hand held jobs you get at Bass Pro shops or Walmart don’t get enough range to require a license, but if you get one capable of using Morse code or talk across the country, you need a “Ham license” which is easier to get now than 40 years ago. Good luck.
