: choice of connections

Over the years a variety of fiber optic connectors have been designed for most fiber optic facilities. Equipment manufacturers Lightwave never standardized on one type of plug, they can offer a selection of the connections their device interface.

It is very important to choose the type of fiber connection for your applications. There must be a standard connection over a fiber optic project.

For most fiber optic connectors, are the main components of iron rule, the body of the connector, the connector cover and strain relief.

Ring

The ferrule is the central part of the plug. It contains fiber in a hole in the middle. Shell to stainless steel ceramic (zirconium oxide) or composite material.

It provides relief of stress on the fiber to micro-bending, to prevent cracking and provides mechanical support for the use of fibers and connectors.

ST connector />
ST connector was once the most popular fiber connector. He was popular with singlemode and multimode fiber links. The average insertion loss for a ST connector is about 0.5 dB.

ST connector has a variant of the locking mechanism that probably will not come loose vibrating environment. It is most commonly used in LANs.

FC connector />
FC connector is popular for single mode applications. It has the lowest insertion loss and better reproducibility. It has a wire to a lock.

SMA />
SMA is a very old type of connector that is used primarily for multi-modal applications. Today it is still in progress with medical equipment.

There are two types of SMA connector on the market: ADM 905 and ADM 906th The only difference between them is that ADM has a 906 SMA straight tip 905 a step-down ferrule.

D4 connector />
NEC D4 was probably using the first connection with ceramic or hybrid ceramic / stainless steel fittings. It uses a little less than SC or FC. It has been widely used in telecommunications networks in the late 80s and early 90s, some may still be used.

FDDI connector />
Besides the SC Duplex, you can sometimes use the FDDI duplex connectors which mate to their specific networks. They are generally used to connect devices to connect from a wall outlet, but the rest of the network will have ST or SC connectors. Since they both 2.5 mm ferrules, they can be ST or SC connectors connected to adapters.

Biconical connector />
