Do you need a tv license to just watch dvds and use games console?
1Question : Do you need a tv license to just watch dvds and use games console?
I am in student accommodation and can not get a signal from my room so didn’t take my tv. But for christmas got a wii and want to bring it up, I don’t no if i need a tv license or not?
on the website it says ‘You must be covered by a valid TV License if you watch or record television programmes as they’re being shown on TV. It makes no difference what equipment you use – whether it’s a laptop, PC, mobile phone, digital box, DVD recorder or a TV set – you still need a license.’
so as I can not get broad casted tv is this ok??
thanks

@ agb90spruce But Home Theatres here doesn’t include TVs or projectors or something.

What you call it doesn’t really matter.
In general, a Hi-fi system (an older term, which is short for “High Fidelity”) is usually associated with an audio system, while a Home Theater system (a newer term) denotes a system with a video display (TV or projector) and an audio system (usually a surround sound setup). Home Theater systems can be considered Hi-fi systems, but Hi-Fi systems are not Home Theater systems. HI-fi systems can be as simple as two speakers, a stereo amplifier and a CD player, while Home theater systems can range from a smallish TV and a basic surround audio system (whether all-in-one or separates) to an elaborate dedicated room with theater seating and furnishings with a built-in, high end multi-channel audio system, Blu-ray player, HD projector and big screen.
If you have a DVD that you want to listen to you can use any audio system with a DVD player in it (whether or not it has a TV). On the other hand if you want to watch and listen you need an audio system with a display device as well as a DVD player.
Hope that helps
EDIT: Sorry, but a “Home Theater” DOES include a display of some type. See the definition at the link. You may be confusing the “home theater” component sold at A/V stores that handles the source/amplification portion of a true “Home Theater”. In essence these products are everything but the display. In terms of your question, all true Home Theater setups can handle a DVD, but a Hi-Fi system may or may not, depending on whether the audio player portion is a DVD player or a CD player or a record player.

Your going to need a blank dvd-r or dvd+r to copy movies. Theres no possible way you can use a 80 min cd for a movie. lookup “sony dvd-r” or “fuji film dvd-r” in amazon, those are the best brands and cheapest. If you dont mind spending money then lookup “memorex dvd-r”. Also you cant just copy and past when it comes to burning movies, theres no such thing. download dvd flick. if you really want to get into it, you can get free films from isohunt and burn them to your blank dvd-r using dvd flick. the software is free and so are the movies…theres no need for netflick.
Help with recording DVD’s to computer/phone/micro SD card?
1Question : Help with recording DVD’s to computer/phone/micro SD card?
I have a Toshiba Satellite w/ Windows Vista. I would like to know if DVD’s are able to be recorded onto the computer, and then ultimately, unto the micro SD card in my media compatible phone. I know that most DVD’s are copy-protected but is there a way to transfer visual media unto my card. I would love to watch movies from my cellphone.

Grahtansedss G, I appreciate your advice. I want to give you the points, and I probably will do so for your effort, but I have downloaded the software yet unfortunately I obviously dont know how to use it, because it’s not recording any video. The most I got out of it was audio to the real player installed on my computer.
