You can store the video files on a data DVD for play on the computer.
Modern HD formats require a recent CPU to play smoothly. Don’t expect your three year old laptop to cut the mustard.

It depends what you want to do with it. It’s OK as a hard drive camcorder, but they’re not good with lots of movement and the video quality degrades when you edit it. That’s a general criticism of HDD camcorders, btw, not just the DCR-SR45

nope….I used to do it all the time at the company I worked for. It was recorded to Betacam, transferred to MiniDV, then captured using a crappy $ 200 camera.
