Who makes the best surround / stereo receiver, 7.1, and A & B speakers can press for under $ 500.?
Who makes the best surround / stereo receiver that can push 7.1 and the speakers A and B under 0?
I was looking for a Yamaha RX-V659 sought $ 399.00 seems a lot, but I’m not sure if I will give the best surround sound. I read a study that said it was not that great with the edge. Does anyone know? Response

I would look for a pre-owned or factory refurbished higher-end receiver, unless you need the newest HDMI switching. You’ll get a much better quality receiver.

Now, there are too many factors to include to properly answer your question, for instance: The ohms of your speakers (front/rear/center/sub) This will greatly impact any receiver’s ability to properly power them without distortion or the amp overheating. The JVC model listed is a base model, but they make class A and D amps that are very durable for the general user. In home theater, you usually get what you pay for, but JVC has some strong units at reasonable prices. -

I own an RX V659 and it’s a great receiver! I use it for movies, 2 channel and 5.1 channel music, and it sounds great for everything. I’ve got it wired for 7.1 AND zone 2 which is only a preamp line out to the Denon receiver I have hooked up to my computer upstairs. B speakers are hooked up to my rehearsal room.
It’s a user friendly amp, it’s got balls where you need them, and aside from HDMI repeating, it’s not missing anything really. The newer models like the 661 and up have those “scene” buttons on the front which act like an activity button on a Harmony remote, but I really don’t care if they’ve got them or not.
The 659 is a great amp for the money….not much else in that range has Burr Brown dacs inside.If you want to test the amp out, take in a couple movies like Star Wars Episode I, listen to the space battle. Also, try out some DTS 5.1 music discs….they’ll sound incredible to your ears!
Keep one thing in mind though….right now there’s next to nothing available in 7.1 although more titles are coming on HDDVD and that other thing from Sony. Your 7.1 receiver will artificially create the 6th and 7th channels from a 5.1 source.
If you’re looking for something that can accept and reproduce 7.1, make sure it has an 8 channel analogue input on the back of the receiver. If it doesn’t, chances are it won’t handle the new audio formats when they come out en masse. -
