How would I become a wedding photographer?
Question : How would I become a wedding photographer?
I am eighteen years old, and I have a love of photography. I also love weddings and therefore being a wedding photographer would be an ideal career for me. However, I do not know what is needed in order to accomplish this goal.

Attend photography school and work for 2 or 3 years as an assistant to a wedding photographer. You don’t have to stay with one photographer. Some wedding photographers use a traditional style while others use a photojournalist style. An exposure to both will help you.
While in school, take business courses since you’re planning on owning a business. Use the SBA (Small Business Administration) and its S.C.O.R.E. (Service Corps of Retired Executives) members to your advantage. Learn to write a business plan and how to establish a minimum 6 month budget – you should have sufficient funds to cover your basic expenses for 6 months without generating any income from your business.
Work to develop your own style based on your vision. Although imitation is the sincerest form of flattery you don’t want to be a clone of your mentor.

Buy the referenced issues of both magazines and study them.

Easy, talk to the wedding photographers in your area and work for them. You MAY have to start out doing FREE assistance work. Wedding photographers need the phone answered, the finished images packaged for pick up or drop off, the camera bag moved the light moved and so on. Once your “in” the money will start to happen. Join your local Pro. Photographers of America group as well. I learned a LOT with them at the yearly state wide convention as well as the almost every month local group gather ings. Good luck.
