company and just like Palm they’re bound by legalities. Apple stole some of Palm’s stuff. Palm stole some of Apple’s stuff. The only difference here is the Pre has been in development since before the iPhone came out. Palm verified this themselves. Apple’s patent is less than 3 weeks old. It’s still a patent, I’m not saying it isn’t, but this is a two-sided deal that Apple should not want to fight Palm over. Bad PR and legal fees will ruin marketing for the next iPhone.

Come on dude. Apple’s legal team isn’t free. Bringing a lawsuit against a company, even a dwindling one like Palm will be costly. Even if Apple wins they’ll spend ungodly amounts of time dealing with Palm’s obstacles. I didn’t make up facts when I said Palm has AT LEAST 4 patents dating back before the iPhone was ever thought of that Apple violated. Apple’s multi-touch claim is legally theirs, yes, but the iPhone is not so purely original that Apple should win all immunities. Apple is a still a

Apple will not lose money. Why? because they are gonna go after all the phone makers out there that uses their patent and sue them one by one.
I’m sure Apple did their research before designing the iphone. Everything will have to be proven in court.
On the other hand, the palm pre is so obvious, you don’t need the court to justify what they copied from Apple.

to deter Apple from filing a lawsuit because the legal battle will cost both companies dearly. Apple has more money than Palm but no company ever wants to get into a 50/50 lawsuit that will drain funds and do nothing but bad favors for PR. Palm is not claiming any touchscreen patents, they’re just trying to say “yeah, the Pre uses it, but the iPhone uses some of our stuff too”. The objective is for the companies to realize the futility of the legal battle and avoid the financial strain.

Apple wants to sue because on Jan 20 of this year, they were granted exclusive patents regarding multi-touch technology, which the Pre (and only the Pre) uses. Apple claims this is a violation of their patents, but Palm is pointing out that while they may have violated the multi-touch patent, Apple has violated several Palm patents, including putting a call on hold to start another call. The point here is that Palm and Apple both violate one another’s patents, and Palm wants to use this as means

You gotta remember that the patent is on a touch screen using a stylus while the iphone is done on a multitouch so how can you say they are the same? Also keep in mind that one word can totally make it different on the patent world.
Look at Gibson they try suing Guitar Hero.
Their patent is a real instrument, guitar hero is a toy.Apple can afford to buy them out and close them for good or can drag this lawsuit until palm goes bankrupt. It will be too late then for the pre to come out.

The patents Palm has brought up involve simple functions, one of which I remember being the ability to put a call on hold and start another phone call without losing track of your first call. The iPhone does that and Palm has had a patent on it for years.
Palm’s legal argument comes from a bunch of small functionalities that I think they’ll use as means to deter Apple from getting into a costly court battle that they aren’t guaranteed to win. Apple’s patent only covers multi-touch.

Coming out on June or July? Hahahaha That’s if apple don’t slap a lawsuit on them. Don’t be so sure. The palm pre is one of the biggest copycat that ever came out in the phone business history of mankind. it will be a different story if they were the first one to come out with the phone.
Only then they changed their phone design when they saw the apple iphone. It’s so obvious that all their ideas came from the iphone.
You would not understand because you did not invent the iphone.
