How to mount LCD over working fireplace/chimney?
Question : How to mount LCD over working fireplace/chimney?
We are looking to mount our TV over our fireplace. The fireplace works, and there is a chimney too. We are going to buy an LCD b/c we have a plasma and have heard that they don’t do well with heat. I am just wondering how to hide the cords. I don’t want them showing but I am scared that we may ruin the chimney. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I would be more concerned about ruining the tv with the smoke that is bound to escape from time to time besides the heat damage.
Over-fireplace installations are among the most difficult due to the cabling issue, pluss any heat, soot, etc. from the fireplace. If you’re comfortable with the heat (etc.) issue, you can tackle the cabling problem, at that’s the hard part.
You need at a minimum a power cable and source cable (antenna, HDMI connection from the cable or satellite box, etc.). If you use a home theater system and/or DVD player, you have to add in all those cables.
The usual procedure with a TV wall mount, going through the wall behind the TV with the cables, won’t work for you. You have to route them to one side of the TV and down somehow. You can buy cable covering products designed for the purpose–see the discussion in the link below for examples. But you will still have the covering material visible, it just won’t look quite as ugly as exposed cables.
