While it may depend on your plan, you probably will have to pay for it.

I have to pay whenever I receive or send a call, but I only have to pay when I send a text.
However, my mother has to pay whenever she receives or sends a call or receives or sends a text.
We use the same company (Tracfone) but have different phones.
