Question : Can I record a phone interview with someone? Legal or not?
I want to interview this company by phone and I need the conversation down on paper but I can’t write and speak at the same time, or type at the same time that quickly. Can I record the conversation? Is it legal in California? I don’t plan on using the recording for anything except to type the conversation up. Can someone sue me for any reason if I type it up? If I destroy the recording after typing it up, can they still sue me?

just cite your sources if you use them and make sure the person you are talking to knows your recording.. not illegal.. if it was then there would be no public prank call recordings

It is illegal to record any confidential communication without the consent of all parties to the communication. (Pen C 632.) The key here is “confidential.” A confidential communication is one engaged in under circumstances reasonably indicating that any party desires it to be confined to the parties to the communication. That would not seem to apply to an interview with a company.
Would anybody know if you broke the law by recording the conversation? Probably not, if that is the basis upon which you make decisions whether or not to obey the law. However, if you wanted to be completely safe, just tell them it is being recorded for the reasons you have stated.

your supposed to let the other party know your recording the conversation but if it’s just for notes and your not going to go public with the recording then it’s legal
