I have used E-Fax for free to receive faxes and it is very nice. There is a page limit per month though and it is very low. For a few dollars more you can receive more pages and send as well.

I’ve tried Fax1 http://fax1.com/ which seemed pretty good. If you have an email address that’s not one of the free ones (yahoo! or gmail or hotmail or etc) then they’ll give you a $ 1 free trial which is good for faxing about 8 pages in the USA. Otherwise, faxes are just 12 cents a page, which seems pretty alright to me.

I have signed up for and use eFax. I get my faxes via email in a PDF format.

Its a great service.

Have had no problems with it in the 2 years I have been using it.
