Eternal USB powered Hard Drive makes a clicking sound(sort of)?
Question : Eternal USB powered Hard Drive makes a clicking sound(sort of)?
Hi there everyone. I just wanted to ask this question about a sound that my external hhd makes when I plug. It goes like this, when I plug it in it runs normally and it spins(duh). When I put my ear beside it, I hear a slight click(that’s what it sounds like to me anyway, but it kinda also sounds like what you’d hear from an old vhs recorder or a cassette tape) when I open folders which contain a large amount of data or a lot of files like pictures and vids. But it doesn’t last long, its just like a single click then it’s gone and when I try to re-open the folder again I don’t hear it anymore. I only hear this when a closely place my ear on it to examine the hdd. Other than that, you won’t really notice the sound when you place it as you would normally do.
I know about the so called click of death, and I know that you’ll hear repeating clicks over and over when it happens. But this only makes one click when you open folders with lots of files and it does not happen anymore once all the files are loaded. I just wanted to know if this is normal, or if I’m just getting paranoid over it. =)

Usually an external USB powered hard drive makes a clicking noise if their is not enough power coming through the usb cable to power the Hard drive.
Since you can connect it and access files fine, i wouldn’t worry about it.:)
