What’re the roadblocks for a sound system party?
Question : What’re the roadblocks for a sound system party?
A sound system party is when a person parks a portable sound system somewhere and people gather around, it’s funded by an admission fee, or by selling food/drink to the crowd.
Wouldn’t it be easier to mix one’s own music instead of dealing with licensing trouble for playing popular songs?
How can one avoid clashing with the law?
Assume alchohol isn’t allowed, to avoid drunken behavior and trouble with the cops.
Any ideas/suggestions/comments?

Find podsafe music (music that is legal to download for free from where-ever) its not licensed so you should be fine. Try searching in the itunes store for “Dust For Eyes”, its a dj who mixes podsafe music you can download for free! I dont think you can get in trouble for playing popular songs at a paid event, nightclubs do it everyday. Where your problem might come from is charging admission, you need a license (stupid government) to charge admission, but not donations!
