Question : FEMALES IN THE ARMY! I Have a few questions..?
So I’m planning on joining the Canadian Forces to become a military nurse but of course I’d have to take basic training.. so I have some questions!
1. What do you do during your period?
2. I keep hearing about how many women get raped in the army.. can anyone shed some light on that?
3. Are you allowed to bring birth control there? (To help regulate periods)
4. Are you allowed to wear contact lenses? If so do you even have enough time to care for them properly etc or would you recommend wearing glasses? And would glasses get in the way of training?
5. Are you ever allowed to go out on the weekends or anything? Do you get any free days?
6. Do you get deoderant? Haha sorry if that’s a stupid question.
7. I have long hair… will I have to cut it or will a bun suffice? I’ve heard of girls with long hair having it rot because its always wet and dirty in the bun? I dont want that to happen but i’d prefer not to cut my hair?
8. Is there a lot of girl drama?
9. Is it awkward to shower naked in front of people? And like do you ever get to shave your legs and lower region (for like..hygenic purposes)
10. I’m a huge girly girl. I danced for 7 years and I’m currently a cheerleader in my grade 12 year of high school. I’m an extremely determined and motivated individual and I really want to prove to myself I can do it! Do you have to be a butch tom boy to make it in through basic?

2 umm, no i don’t think you hafta worry about getting raped i heard nothing of the sort happening when i was in but there is a bunch of slutty people in training that sneak off and do stuff…
3 i can’t remember if you can or can’t… i think you can’t but it wont matter you’re cycle will be regular from being around so many chics anyways, ya’ll will all have your periods at the same time
4 nope they’ll give you bcgs (which we call birth control glasses cause they’re hideous!)
5 no weekends no free days although some sundays will be relaxed but don’t expect that right when you get there, ait on the other hand…
6 of course, you’ll go to the shoppette and buy your own personal items
7 you can keep your hair and i’ve never heard of peoples hair rotting!
8 oh yeah you can only imagine
9 no, you get over it real quickly. you’ll be walking around naked as comfortable as adam and eve and yes you get to shave!
10 our first pg was a girly girl/ cheerleader and had the cheerleader voice to go with it (whenever we’d be cheering each other on) theres lots of girly girls and theres some boyish girls and a little in between just like the real world…
*idk why they say that none of the girls had periods at their bct (maybe they were putting something in the food where they went lol) but we all got ours! like i said you’ll go to the shoppette like once every other week to buy the things u need so you’ll have tampons or pads if you need them

1. no periods in basic for some women,

7. get up earlier to dry it so it does not stay wet in a bun all day

Well I am not sure on Canadian but as a female vet of the US military I can tell you what I can from my personal experience.
1) Alot of women (well I went Marines so it may be different for army) didnt have their periods due to the fact of the increased sudden physical stress on their bodies . SOrt of like ashock to the system, no worries though after basic go to your Dr and they can give meds to help restart it.
a little but its kept down cause of the supervison we were under
2) In my unit which was highly male, I was looked at more of a little sister, not saything there are jerks out there but not any more than the civvie world.
3) no we werent allowed to bring any sort of drug with us. ( “thats what corpsmen are for if you need something bad enough”)
4) No contacts, take it from a glasses wearer. You most likely will be getting prescripts in basic any how.
5) not usually till the end close to grad you could see you family but come back after a few hours.
6)Yes you go to the store and buy necessary items
7) bun should suffice as long as its in regulation length
9) Depends on person as far as awkardsness goes, Mantitory for the shaved legs & pits ( at least)
10) nope. we had “girly girls” in our platoon and some of them did better than the tomboys I guess due to the extra drive to proof themselves. My bunk mate was a former child model.
