Question : Small business phone number that’s listed in directory assistance?
Are there any options for getting a phone number for my business without actually having to go through my local phone company? I have heard of “virtual” numbers that can be forwarded to another “real” phone, but I don’t know of any good companies. Also, I MUST have a service that will be listed in directory assistance for customers and credit verification reasons.

If you’re interested in getting a toll free number it’s best to do a little research on the subject first. There are a lot of companies out there; some are good and some are total scams. You’re going to want to look into ownership of your number. This means going with a company that allows you to keep your number for as long as you, or your business, need it. This also means no contracts as well as the ability to port, or transfer, your number at any time. In my experience the top providers of the most basic service plans would be Opex or TollFreeNumber.org. If you’re looking for a more complex system with extensions or other features VirtualTelecenter.com has that covered with some of the industry’s lowest rates. If you’re just starting out the basic plan should work fine until you feel the need to upgrade. It’s pretty simple and just forwards to any number you’d like. I hope this helps.
