Do you need to have Cingular cell service in order to use a firefly phone?
Question : Do you need to have Cingular cell service in order to use a firefly phone?
I am considering getting my daughter a Firefly phone that is made just for kids, but I do not have Cingular as my cell service provider. Since the phone is made by Cingular, I am afraid that it would be incompatible with my current cell service provider. I do not have the option of switching service providers. Is the firefly available as a prepaid/no contract phone? I hate to waste money on something that she wouldn’t be able to use. Or is there a different phone that you suggest for a child that is a prepaid/no contract phone?

A firefly is only available for Cingular service. That said, you can set it up however you want. Whether it is on a one/two year contract or a Go Phone (Cingular’s Prepaid service). This can be done either at your local Cingular store or online at cingular.com
Whether there is a different phone for a child…of course.
Verizon offers the Migo which is just like the firefly.

It is available as a prepaid phone. I went to the Cingular Website and looked at the prepaid phones.
