For six hundred dollars there’s no way it’s worth it.

Try connecting to your PC, preferably with HDMI cable if possible, though VGA would work as well. Load standard NTSC color bars onto your computer and set your computer to output to your TV; alternatively you may want to perform a full monitor test such as the Nokia monitor test, which is available as a free download. This monitor test will allow you to ensure the colors are accurate, fine detail can be resolved, and more importantly that brightness and contrast are set properly.
Or, you can even skip all of that, if you have some kind of content (for example, DVD) that can display perfect black on some part of the screen, you can just display that and follow these guidelines: http://www.poynton.com/notes/brightness_and_contrast/ Again, connecting to your computer to load something perfectly black will work best, for example the black color bar in the NTSC test pattern.
There are also test pattern DVDs available for sale, and they cost far less than $ 600.
