Do the major contact lens retailers sell lenses for Kerataconus patients?
Question : Do the major contact lens retailers sell lenses for Kerataconus patients?
If you suffer from Kerataconus or know someone that does and you/they wear contact lenses to correct it, have you bought lenses from a major retailer (in Australia) and were there any problems and any warranty?
Specifically I want to know if any sell post graft aspheric lenses. I just called one place and the guy had no idea what I was talking about.

The best thing would be to go your optometrist and ask for the range of lenses they have on hand, they can order you special ones if you need them. Acuvue covers a pretty broad range, so they may have the ones that your looking for.
Hi,
It is highly unlikely that you are going to be able to buy such lenses from a major retailer, generally you will require a specialised optometric practice. As you’ll be aware, your cornea is not flat or aspheric, so you can’t simply put an aspheric lens on. You will need a specialised fitting session whereby the exact placement and measurements of the lenses need to be calculated. The lenses will be individually manufactured for you.
A couple of suggestions, if one eye has already had a graft (DALK or PK?), your other eye is not far behind (3-5years). Have you looked at Corneal Collagen Crosslinking (C3R). I know there is a medical study being conducted in Melbourne. (Don’t be too concerned about the term ‘study’, Aus is a little behind on this technique, it has been carried out in Germany, Switzerland and UK since the late 90′s). Perhaps the best places to get a decent CL fit are going to be the clinics that provide C3R to Keratoconus patients, as they will need to correct the visual effects +-6 months of stablisation.
Unfortunately I cannot be specific in terms of venues as I am not based in Aus. We perform a large volume of Keratoconus treatment and Lens fittings in the UK.
