Can a cellular phone company charge you more for an international incoming call than a regular incoming call?
Question : Can a cellular phone company charge you more for an international incoming call than a regular incoming call?
I’m not talking about a collect call. Just a normal call that was initiated outside of the country. Thanks.

This is weird, because in Europe you never get charged for incoming calls. Wheter its a regular or international call. (Unless you are in an other country at the moment you get called.)
I don’t know about the rest of the world. I do think they can charge you money for international incoming calls, although it would be nasty, because they won’t have higher costs then regular calls, so everything you pay is just profit for your phonecompany.

What state? In most states it is against the statute of the Board of Equalization which regulates taxes and fees applied to wireless providers. A company can’t charge extra unless: 1) It is prepaid, the call was accepted in peak hours where there were not suffient minutes left in the plan and so the company charges you for every minute u went over whether is local, national or international. Remember that when you check your voicemail, call 800 #, or accept calls from other carriers (or international) your plan minutes are running!!! so they can charge you because u went over your minutes. Otherwise they cannot charge you.

No, depending on the carrier. I’m with Cingular Wireless, and when I do get an international call, it is treated like any normal incoming call. You can’t be billed because the call isn’t originating from the US. Most carriers don’t charge extra rates for it. It will take minutes out of the appropriate time bucket, like if the call happened during the day (peak), it’d come out of anytime minutes. If it happened during the nights/weekend (off-peak), it would come out of the bucket, which for most people, is unlimited (check your plan details).
