PLZ HELP! is this a wire/phone tap on my line? PICS INCLUDED! 10 pts!?
Question : PLZ HELP! is this a wire/phone tap on my line? PICS INCLUDED! 10 pts!?
i have suspected a phone tap on my line by a family member for a while now…i dont trust this person and he always knows sooo much about me, its really creepy. so me and my husband have always looked but never found anything. recently, our line went bad and my hubby replaced the wire…we have had a few other problems too and finally tonight my hubby went into the phone box outside and opened up the restricted area. at first didnt see anything but pulled wires out and found 2 things attached to our line. we also notice alot of popping and static in our lines most of the time. also any links that could be helpful as to what this is would be great! i plan to call the phone company in the morning…and possibly the police and an attorney lol.
my hubby getting into our box
opening up the restricted area
didnt see anything but hubby pulled wires out of one of those holes
and this is what we found when the extra wire was pulled out of the small hole there
those 2 things you see are clear plastic and have metal pieces inside them. they are attached to each wire and its like they are splicing the wire. we’re not sure if this is always on the phone or if its a wire tap. please help!!!
thanks in advance!

Well first of you shouldn’t tamper inside your phone box, but it just looks like wire joiners to me. I’ve seen similar things in other electronic devices. I wouldn’t worry, but if your still worried just call up your phone company and get them to come can check it out for you.

You did not show all of the connections, however, when a demarcation point is installed, there are two connections made, so that if you ever get a second line, then it is already wired from the Telco Access point to the demarcation point. The connectors that you show are the typical “B” Type connectors that are used to bond two wires together. A properly installed wire tap will not give any indication on the line that there is anything there. However water, EMI, and poor connections will give you a very noisy line. You could also have a crossed connection that could cause the problem as well.
You can call the Telco, and the police, but I would be more inclined to find out which close friend is spilling the beans to your relative.
