The mental processes involved in using a mobile occupy too much mental processing power for one to consistently drive safely. Bluetooth or otherwise. An adjacent passenger is less troublesome, but there’s a well-documented history of accidents cause by driver-passenger conversations.
Listening to someone on a bluetooth is more dangerous than listening to someone who is in the car, because someone in the car can stop talking when there is heavy traffic and can even warn you when there is a red light, disabled vehicle, or other hazard ahead. A person on the phone cannot see these things.
