I would use a search engine on the internet and find photography tips, get yourself a good SLR camera and buy photography magazines, they teach you a lot and save you money on expensive courses! Practise is the main thing, you can’t just become a good photographer by going to a course, you have to practice all the time. I would try to learn what you can by yourself before forking out on expensive courses.
Id say research! I went to a 1 day lighting and modelling course and it was great – I learnt how to use different lighting and position the model – and met really friendly people.
Saying that though – I felt that I couldnt ask the questions and get the advice I needed as it was a group….I left feeling inspired, but aware of the deep pool I was in! Lots of talk about things I didnt understand….
I would have preferred some understanding on setting up a studio – example how to synchronize flashlights etc
I would recommend doing a cheap day course – as on this course there were 4 professional photographers who ran their own businesses – they were great and helped answer loads of questions – gave advice and tips on where to get good prints etc. I just felt the practicle side could have been abit better….but if you do something like this oyu may meet the right kind of people who can advise…
practice..practice..practice…..
good luck!
