How do I hook things up to give a powerpoint projector?
Question : How do I hook things up to give a powerpoint projector?
I know this is a weirdly worded question but, I have to give a presentation at work with powerpoint and we have a screen and a laptop that are supposed to hook up but I don’t know how and I don’t want to look underqualified. Can someone please help? Thanks

Turn on the computer. Then connect the projector to the laptop using the 15-pin monitor cable. There is usually a combination of keys on the laptop to press to enable the projector to display the laptop’s screen image too. Sometimes it’s the “Fn” key plus F5 or “Fn” plus a key with a picture of a computer screen on it. Sometimes you have to press these key combinations more than one time. Once you see the image on the screen from the projector, you’re all set.
You will need sound and picture. The picture comes through a VGA cable connection and is shaped like a “D” on its side, usually blue or black. Newer laptops will automatically “see” the projector as an external screen and put your computer screen up on the projector screen. Old laptops will have a key with a “TV” icon for you to “toggle” through these choices for display: local (just the computer), external (the room screen) or both.
The audio will require a patch cord, the 3.5mm end has three divisions (two black lines) for stereo or two for mono. This plugs into the headphone jack of your computer. The other end terminates in RCA plug(s), which goes into your sound system input or projector (if it has sound capability), RED is RIGHT if you are lucky enough to have stereo.
They will have the cables if they are used to doing demos and usually there are people who help with A/V issues like this. If you are planning on doing this a lot it never hurts to have your own set with you. Pins can get bent or develop a “patina” if they are old and stop working.
