Question : optical cable?
i have hooked up my xbox360 with hdmi to my receiver, and another hdmi to my tv. it works perfectly. but how would i be able to get my tv cable connection, to work with my 5.1 speaker setup?
would i use an optical cable going from my tv to my receiver?
should i use an rf switch?
or is there a better way?
my tv is a toshiba 42rv530u, and my receiver is a denon avr-788.

Optical from the cable/sat box to the receiver would be best. If you don’t use a converter box, go from the tv to the receiver. If you do it that way, you may have to go into the TVs audio menu and set it up as a fixed output. You might also want to turn the TVs internal speakers off while your at it.
