Should you answer your business cell phone during a business meeting . I say it is rude, boss said it is not.
Question : Should you answer your business cell phone during a business meeting . I say it is rude, boss said it is not.
I have a cell phone issued by a govenment agency. I schedule visits to local businesses . They are ussually one on one visits. Should I answer my cell phone during the visit or wait till it is over?

Wait till is over in most cases unless you have a critical position where saftey is concerned. If you your meetings are very long, find appropriate times to take a small break so all parties may use the restroom, check messages, get a drink.
Everyone understands that peoples schedules are hectic now-a-days, but if you schedule a visit with someone, your asking them to set their time asside for you, you should make every effort to do the same and set your time asside for them.

If you are at a meeting and UNLESS you are EXPECTING an important call, turn the darn cell phone OFF when you are at a meeting… it is HIGHLY RUDE to be conducting a meeting and have it interrupted by some phone call…If it is an EMERGENCY, you should have some sort of EMERGENCY SIGNAL doesn’t cell phones allow you to call a number and after it dial 911 to let whomever the call is going to know it’s an EMERGENCY???? you could set your phone on VIBRATE and not interrupt but then LOOK at it to see if it is an emergency and then excuse yourself and call the number back…. I would be highly insulted in someone’s cell phone interupted a meeting I was having with them….

Face-to-face people take precedence over telephone communications.
Let your voicemail take a message. The person you are speaking with on your appointment isn’t interested in wasting their time while you speak to someone else.
Tell your boss for me that if he were to pull such a rude stunt like that during a meeting with me, he’d soon be out on his ear, with his cell phone. SOME of us in this world still remember what business etiquette is all about.

There is a tendancy lately to ignore the person you are with to converse with the person who has called you on your cell phone. I agree with you–it’s rude. The phone service is almost always equipped with a voicemail and missed call notification. Return the calls as soon as convenient, and that should be soon enough!

Usually, one should turn off their cell before meeting so that it won’t interrupt during discussions. The person on the other line can always leave a message so that you can call back. Regardless of business or not.
