Question : How can a phone interview be recorded in Australia without attaching to the line (illegal) and still good qual
As it illegal in Australia to attach anything to the telephone line I have to use a stand alone recorder which quality is not the best. (just so you know the other person knows they are being recorded as it is interviews for my business)

There are two (three, actually) ways I know of to record from a telephone and NOT physically touch the actual wires. This depends on your actual equipment. In a non-electronic phone, there is a transformer in the base unit. There exists a pickup coil which you place under your phone and hooks to the MIC input of your recorder. The other type is a device which uses a suction cup which you fit to the handset over the earpiece. It picks up the magnetic field from the speaker in the earpiece and also connects to the MIC input. The under base part will pick up both sides of the conversation since both parts go through the transformer, provided you HAVE the transformer type. On the earpiece unit, it may only pick up what you hear from the other end as some phones do not play what you say into the earpiece. The 3rd alternative, use a speakerphone and simply use the recorder built-in microphone.
