in order to watch blu-ray you need a player for it and they can be pretty expensive unless you have one built in. the picture is definetley better and the quality is aswell but it doesn’t really matter about whether it is blu-ray or just your standard dvd.

Well a SMALL LCD TV set generally doesn’t have a 1080P display panel in it…
You may only have a 720 or less, especially if you’re talking about a 20 inch or smaller tv.
So a Blu-Ray is WAY too much DVD player for those..
As for the 20 to 27 inch TV sets, it’s still too much DVD player…
But when you move to 30 inch or higher…that’s where the Blu-Ray really shows you it’s value !
A 480P DVD player (Standard DVD player) really does look great, even on the larger TV sizes…the component output jacks on the back of the DVD player really improves the signal quality over the standard 3 wire input jacks.

John,
The right way to answer this is to figure out the pixel size on your Tv and then figure out how close you have to be to the screen and then if you sit that close (or closer) then you will see the added resolution blu-ray will give you. If you sit farther away, then since you aren’t seeing the fine resolution, it makes no difference.
But I don’t have that info for you set and I am too tired right now anyway. LOL
My gut feeling is that if you can afford the cost of a blu-ray (and I have seen one as cheap as $ 128) and the movies, if you would plan on getting a larger screen at some point in the future, then go for it…
If nothing else, at least when there is something interesting on screen, you might just be tempted to draw your chair a little closed to enjoy the picture.
Good luck and whatever you do, enjoy it!
