Question : Is it rude to ask the employees at a car parts store to replace the parts?
Okay, so I needed to buy new headlights for my car the other day, and for some reason my headlights are ridiculously confusing to replace- and, honestly even if they were easy i’m not sure I could do it myself, but I think the Audi people try to make everything confusing. Anyway, So, I bought a new headlight at the Auto Parts store, and then asked the guy if he could replace it for me. He seemed totally irritated that I asked, so, I told him never mind. Is that really rude of me to ask?

its not their job…the people that do it are called mechanics…try to find one [not a dealer]

Since his job is to sell the part and mine is to install it, you were asking the wrong guy. Now if you would have asked him, “How much do you want to show me how to install this since I’m a twit and can’t figure it out”, he probably would have smiled and shown you how. Courtesy and consideration will get you everything. Or as my Granny used to say, “Honey attracts more flies than vinegar”.

You know it’s not rude but there is a difference between asking to have a light on a Ford Tempo replaced and replacing one on an Audi. I can almost say that close to 97 percent or more autoparts specialist have never replaced that on an Audi. therefore that is more than anything a liability question.

That depends on how you look at life.
At what point would you as a sales person say you cant fit something. (maybe an engine?)
How much were you going to pay him to do this work for you and why not just pay a qualified mechanic /auto electrician ?
What if you paid for this light and as he is fitting it , it was damaged, who would pay for a replacement light?
What if he was fitting this light and he was injured, who is responsible?
What if the local mechanic/auto electrician discovered the spare parts guys doing their work, would that be ok with them.
What if his boss discovered him doing this while customers were waiting?
If you were that customer waiting would you be ok with this?
Where will the tools come from to do the job and where will he do it?.

I am sorry but in my eyes while its fair to show some leg and maybe con some over sexed young fella into doing this for you, maybe even for free, its rude to be annoyed upon him not falling for a con job.

Depends on the store. Some stores offer free installation on certain parts, some don’t. If they’re “ridiculously confusing” and time-consuming, the guy behind the counter at your local Auto Zone may be none-too-happy to fool with it.
