Is it legal for my supervisor to show my timesheet to other employees without my knowledge?
Question : Is it legal for my supervisor to show my timesheet to other employees without my knowledge?
My manager, who plays favorites with one of my co-workers, has disclosed my timesheet on numerous occassions. When my co-worker hinted at what she saw (pre-approved overtime) to another employee I was livid but chose not to confront her about it because my manager is to blame for giving her that information to begin with.
Is this legal? Because it sure is infuriating.
I am tempted to go directly over her head to the bigwig to nip this in the bud. Should I?

Nope it’s not legal. You should definitely go to the “bigwig” and let him/her know about the situation.

She’s wrong and it’s a breach of confidentiality. Your timesheet should be considered a personal and confidential matter between you, her, and HR, not a fourth party. It wasn’t your coworker’s business to know you’d gotten overtime-plus she blabbed to another coworker about it.
What will she do next-show your coworker your Evaluation Performance sheet? Or tell her your salary? Next thing you know, your business is out in the open like the old game of “Telephone” – tell one person, they tell another, and another, etc.
These days, what should be confidential isn’t, and what shouldn’t be confidential is.
I’d go to whoever’s over her.

if there is personal confidential info, like your social security number or address etc on the page, i would go over their head. they are putting you in jeopardy of identity theft.
if there is no personal info, just your name and a made up employee number. i’d drop it. you dont want to lose your job in this economy.

Your timesheet is not privileged information so its not illegal.
