Atlanta, GA (Vocus) 5 June 2009

A new study has shown the absence of compliance with the manufacturer’s recommended replacement contact lenses contact lenses contact us. In a study of 1654 contact lens wearers, 59 percent of the patients two weeks after replacement contact lenses wore their lenses longer than the replacement rate by the manufacturer (MRRF) is recommended. By comparison, contributed 29 percent of people with spare contact lenses a month and only 15 percent of daily disposable contact lenses longer than their MRRF.

The study was conducted by the Centre for Research Contact (CCLR) at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry, in collaboration with David B. Sarw, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology in the Departments of Psychiatry and Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Medicine. CIBA Vision has announced the results in a study to examine the compliance schedule for the replacement.

In this study, which CCLR also studied the behavior of the patients at the time of replacement contact lens compliance. The most common reasons for wearing lenses on MRRF were one? Forgetting what day lensesâ replace? (51 percent) and a?? How to save moneys? (26 percent). However, patients report not that important conversations with their eye doctor reported on the impact of compliance with a timetable for the replacement of 87 percent of patients in the discussion on the health effects of non-compliance and 77 percent have said they have an impact comfort discussed with their eyes family doctor.

? Although the patients to be aware of possible complications appear not to replace their lenses recommended, depending on the time of replacement is apparently still low, especially with lenses replacement of two weeks?? said Desmond Fonn, MOptom, FAAO, Director, CCLR and professor of the School of Optometry. â?? These findings are important for the practitioners of care account to be placed in the prescription of contact lenses and recommend compensation programs for their patients.â> ????

replacement frequency, or schedule refers to the lenses, how often are discarded and replaced. Usually, the daily disposable lenses are replaced every two weeks or monthly. Proteins, fats and micro-organisms on the surface of contact lenses are stored, so that for the lenses, which used more than once, it is important to replace them out of the eye clean and at appropriate intervals.

? From Todai? s economic environment could put the pressure on consumers to delay purchases, including health care products requirements, it is essential for Eye Care Professionals, to educate patients about the importance of adequate compensation for their contact lenses, â?? Said Jennifer Davis, OD Vision Tech Optometry Center in Virginia.

? CIBA Vision is to collaborate with patients and eye care practitioners to provide greater compatibility with contact lenses for eye health and overall well-being, â? Encourage committed? said Dwight Akerman, OD, FAAO (Dipl), Director of Professional Programs for CIBA Vision North America. â?? In fact, we are on a major awareness campaign to help eye care practitioners to enter the patient the importance of wear and tear, maintenance and renewal of the contact lenses.â> ????
