@bushjohn1 You’re just nit picking with the difference between a pbx and a key system. They’re BASICALLY (but not exactly) the same thing and idea. Especially for a basic video like this about what a phone system is. These systems still get sold and installed everyday. (ok well maybe not the 6×16, but other Nortel Norstar Meridian systems). My job is installing these things. It’s one of the most common systems. No one will have trouble finding installers for these.

Well I have installed this system for over 21 years and I’m certified on it as well, most people would not have a clue as to how to install it, but the upside is you might want to buy the installation manual, but then again by the time you get done with it you will be brain dead. The best thing to do is have in mind how you want your business or home to run and then the features you would like and then have a pro do it, it will cost you less, and your mind will have been saved.

@Mamahasix Who cares about warranty if they are used? If you know what you are looking for, I would assume you would use logic to find out if its a decent item to bid/buy on. Also I have expirence with Avaya systems, therefore I don’t need the the labor! Labor is a scam! I can do things by myself than a “craft” guy! In fact, the Nortels are more open than the avaya system I mentioned before.

I have never seen Magix systems go so down in price so quickly. It has been disconttinued less than 4 years.
You can get a real phone system for about $500 for resale on ebay. I rather spend $500 for a traditional system with more phyiscal hardware than a $500 PCI card tied to a white box that has less features (nvm more inferior.)

@marshalauth Yea, VOIP phone systems are sooo wonderful. I love hearing myself when I call a large company, or the white noise and weird sounds when there is a pause in the conversation. Sorry, but for business systems, IP based just don’t cut it. When I hear myself comeback or the white noise, I ask the person what type of phone are they on. Yup, an IP phone system.

Digital telephony will never get outdated. I can’t tell you how annoying VOIP/IPT is. its nothing but difficult to set up, the expense and the inferior technology it is. Never mind the “asterisks” have the equivelant of about 20 features. The Norstars and other digital systems have MUCH more features than IPT systems…

It takes an hour and a half to set up and configure a VoIP Asterisk based system. Digital sets like that Nortel system are kind of… out dated. Get a cheap desktop and download PBX In a Flash or Trixbox or what ever, get a cheap Trunk or get an FXO card to use your current phone line, and set up a cheaper system. There is places to get cheap VoIP phones.
