Hello? all. I don? Chte copies of my VHS tapes (which of them? Brig). My VHS / DVD? T is cass?, And i hope? Re for t? L? Viewfinder / magn? VCR / DVD, let me see the two editions is found. Can anyone recommend a brand or a solution L? Thank you.
So many different ones out there. Some are just DVD PLAYERS and VCR combos, which allows you to record DVD’s to tape, but that’s it. Price is the key; if it’s under $200, then the DVD part is probably not a recorder.
There are also DVD Recorder/VCR combos that can record broadcasts, as well as record to/from each other. Those are somwhat expensive, costing usually over $300.
And then there are DVD Recorder/VCR units that have no tuner, meaning they can’t record broadcasts, but they can playback AND record to each other, in either direction. Those typically run about $175 – $300.
But… here is the problem. If you’ve got commercial VHS tapes that you simply want to convert to disc, you have every right to do so. IF you can figure out how. By law, digital recording devices MUST recognize copy protection code and refuse to record them. So you need a way around that.
There are boxes made (yes, legally) that strips the copy protection so that you can transfer the material. I’ve used one for years called the Digital Video Stabilizer, available commonly on the Internet for about $30. You have to hook it up to the VCR’s output and then to the DVD input, which is effectively like using two separate machines, although they’re in the same housing.
The RIAA would have you believe that it’s illegal, but they’d also have you believe that you must purchase a separate CD for each player in your home, your car, your mp3 player, etc.
As for brand, everyone has preferences. I’ve had good experience with Panasonic, Samsung seems to be good, LG has set a good track record. Sony has always been a trusty name brand, in spite of some individual experiences. I have seen a lot of complaints about Magnavox, which is part of Phillips and that makes me leery of them for DVD technology.
